Dry skin, itchy with thinning coat can be a sign of skin parasites so it may be a good idea to go to the vet for a skin scraping. Coat conditions can also be linked to diet, feeding a very high quality food or a RAW diet can quite often help. Fatty acids are also good to give for a nice coat.

Hair loss on the flanks is one of the signs of a thyriod problem . It can be tested for by a trip to the vet for bloodwork .

Also supplimenting with Vit E or fish oil can help as are both good for the skin .

Scout at times will have a run of this. I usually put lotion with aloe in it on him and rub in well. If he gets too big of a spot from itching, it will use Neosporin on the spot. It will help ease the itch and keep it protected from dirt. In a few days, I notice the difference. Try to keep her from scratching the area. I know it's hard but necessary.

I always thought ours was because Scout's fur was thinner than Gunner's and his skin was more easily agitated.

We feed cod liver oil, it really helps especially during the winter when it's dry and the furnace is on.

Right now Lilly is on Mackerel due to her pregnancy. her coat is awesome...
