Spot on treatments in white boxers?
To remove this ad please Register
We gave Charlie his worming, claw cutting and Spot on treatments about 2 weeks ago. Only problem is that with charlie being a white boxer he gets very messy and needs a bath on a semi-regular basis. What does this mean for the spot on treatments for fleas and ticks?
Will it wash off? What other options do I have? I supose i should talk to the vet about it really? *scratches head*

I do not use the topical flea stuff .
But it is supposed to be absorbed into thier skin and should not wash off .

we actually haven't used any flea treatments at all but we also havent had the need for it. but i do believe that unless you give him a bath within the first day that you put the spot on stuff on him, it shouldnt actually wash off.

I think it is a week, and then you can bathe them, it gives the product time to go trans-dermal...

I don't use spot ons - they get a little garlic a couple of times a week and that does the trick for us. Do they need to be de-flead at this time of year? I mean I have no idea about the lifecycle of fleas but from hazy memory I thought the summer months was when it was a problem for some dogs.

hmm garlic, i knew that worked for mosquitoes on humans but i never thought of using it for fleas on dogs, but it makes sense, i will have to try that. i know where i am you dont really need to worry about fleas from around September through April(unless you've already got them in your house). but thats just where i am.

Usually we wouldnt bother this time of month but were on a cliff edge with tonnes of forrest left and lots of foxes and squirrels running round and the bugs outside seem to survive the snow and ice.LOL It was -more as a "just to be sure!" dose as hes been spending hours outside running round like an idiot. Hehehehe

Some of them are only 24 or 48 hrs until they can get wet, it is usually on the info sheet in the box - just a pain to find. My naughty son took Fudge into the pool the same day he had his once - I was not impressed, gave him a bath and reapplied it.
