Loosey poopies

Hi there I am new to this forum but I think I'm gonna love it. As I am so in love with my Boxer. We got him from a breeder that i believe to be trustworthy. since we got him home at 8 wks ( he is 5mths now)he has off and on loose stools, I have him on the Blue buff. puppy food and the vet said that it is a good one. Roscoe has no worms or c-diff, no parvo either, Do ya think this is just him or should I try a new food an if so which one, or should I get a new vet and a 2nd oppinion?
thanks

You can try a new food, just do the switch very slowly by mixing the two foods over a period of a week or two. Not every food agrees with every dog. Blue Buffalo is a good brand, but not the best (especially for the price). Other brands worth trying might be Innova, Wellness, Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul, Nature's Variety or Merrick. His loose stool could simply be a food not agreeing with him, or something more like colitis or allergies. Ask and make sure his parents do not have a history of either of these.
You could also look for a food with limited ingredients to try such as CA Natural Lamb and Rice. If it is a food allergy or intolerance sometimes a single carb and protein is easier on the stomach. Which ever food you pick I would aim for one with a different protein than what you are feeding now. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes and if you have any more success with a different food.

another cause for the on and off loose stools could be the extra treats you are giving him, or stuff he's just finding and eating. I know with Tie, i can very quickly he got into something he shouldn't have

Very true. Depending on how often the loose stool is and exactly how loose it is are important factors. Adding a probiotic supplement can also be beneficial to many dogs. A raw diet may also be worth looking into, as this is the diet that has relieved Keepers colitis.

Usually the quality foods aren't found at PetCo or PetSmart. Where are you located? Petco is now carrying Wellness brand and also has CA NAtural, I believe. Pet Supplies Plus has some quality foods, as do small independent stores. If you are really desperate you can order food online, but usually the delivery makes it really expensive.
The Nature's Variety website has a store locater on it, as does the Fromm brand website.

As long as you are around the city I'm sure you can find tons of small independent stores. We have one in our area owned by a lady with boxers. We brought Keepers in once and she loaded us up with nearly $50 in free stuff just because she loved him so much.

Hope that helps . Nature's Variety is certainly not the only good food but usually stores that will carry that have other good brands also.
Also, you aren't limited to puppy foods. Nearly all quality dog food (excluding some grain free types) are for dogs of all life stages.
