Jena I have heard several different things about not getting a dog fixed.. I have heard that the more heats a female dog goes through the more chance of getting cancer... I have also heard that if you get them fixed before a year old the hormone changes affect there growth platlets... I don't know how true any of it is.. however if you aren't planning on breeding her then there isn't any reason not to get her fixed at some point.
