Jus wondering what everyone thinks about removing dew claws. My girl Ali has had two vet visits in the past six months after getting her dew claws caught on stuff.

The suggested we remove them. What are your thoughts.

If removing them is anything like declawing, I say don't do it. In declawing they have to remove a knuckle along with the claw, which I think is cruel.

but then if the dog is going to keep on hurting them self in the long run it would probley be better for your dog if you did have them removed

Oh sorry. I was thinking of something totally different

I think it would be a good idea to get rid of them because the claws are poorly connected to the leg and i think that would effect the dog badly in the future.

Sorry for my misunderstanding. I should have looked it up before i said something

Well most dogs do just fine with having them. Some dogs have dew claws that dangle and get in the way. When this happens they can get caught and rip off.

thanks why some choose to have them removed.
