Hello! I came across this website while trying to search for some info about boxers. My family and I recently adobted a beautiful boxer and since we had him he has had soft stools. We have changed his food once to a premium dog food and it still has'nt changed. He also has alot of gas. Is that normal for boxers or could that be the food as well? Could anyone give me some suggestions on what brand food to use? Thanks!
Pamela

Hi Pamela.... there is a section on here under "forums" that is titled "Diet and Nutrition" with a sub heading on raw food diet too.

And yes... boxers are definitely gassy dogs. I did notice differences in having gas or not, with different foods, so you will find out with experimenting.

Welcome to the forum.

We fed Buddy all raw for most of his life and he had no real gas problems. But he's eating so much lately that we've started offering him kibble if he's still hungry after 2 -2 1/2 lbs raw. We also want to be sure he'll eat kibble so if we go away we can send kibble with him.

We'll be switching it around, since it's good to rotate protein types, but right now we're offering Blue Wilderness Duck. We have found that he does sometimes get gas when he eats that. Not always though - I think it has to do with how much he's eaten, but I'm not sure yet because it's kinda new and he doesn't necessarily eat it every day even.

You can read reviews of dog food at Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost . It's a helpful site.

I also highly recommend the Diet & Nutrition part of this site that Doreen talked about. A wealth of info there.

HI Pamela, I have a similar problem with my foster boxer here - have a look at this post -Very smelly wind... - I have been using enzymes and probiotics for nearly 2 months now and I am delighted to say that the wind has all but stopped - thank goodness - it was absolutely horrendous. His poops are still on the loose side but I would say they are a good 40 percent better than when we first got him. I still think his diet needs some adjusting so am I trying different foods to see if I can find one that suits him as unfortunately I can't fed him raw - which is my preferred choice.

Hi and welcome to the Hub!
While alot of owners say their Boxers have gas it isn't "normal" it's a sign that their system is out of whack. It is common for Boxers to have sensitive stomachs and sensitive stomach can = gas I would keep trying different foods, making sure to do a slow change over when trying a new food. I find it is not really possible to recommend a specific food because each dog seems to do well on different foods. I would suggest sticking with a good quality food and trying different protein sources and maybe even a restricted ingredient food. Digestive enzymes are also beneficial. It may take a while to find what works but with a little patience you'll get there.
