Smile Hello! About to Rescue Boxer Mix and Need Opinions!

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to the forums, and my husband I have been looking at dog breeds for a long time, trying to decide the best one for us. The more we read about Boxers, the more we fell in love. However, it was important to us to find one at a rescue, and we were fine with having a mixed breed, hoping it will lessen the chances of some of the health issues boxers are known for.

The biggest issue for us was finding one that wasn't too big for our condo, and most importantly, one that is good with our two cats, who definitely run the show. We may have finally found one. Dean is listed as a boxer mix in a rural, high-kill NC shelter. The rescue we are working with in Northern VA can bring him up to us, but we are taking a risk adopting him straight from transport.

The shelter tested him with cats, and as you can see from the picture, he passed so we are so excited!! Now, since many of you are experts on the breed, I am hoping you can tell me what he might be mixed with. I would love to hear your opinions!

Here is the photo from the shelter with the cat, which is a much clearer shot of his face. Please let me know what you think! As long as he is enough boxer to have their personalities and be able to be trusted fully with our kitties (which might not be the case if he has any pit in him), then we will be happy.

Thanks!!

I just keep getting drawn to his face and his beautiful eyes which just look all boxer to me so I can't even hazard a guess - sorry. Do you have any other pictures of him from different angles maybe?

Awww, what a sweet looking face!

I know what you mean about having a dog that fits in your condo. Before Buddy we had a Great Dane and I used to joke it was like having a barnyard animal walking around. She was sweet and gentle though so it was no problem. At least for us. When we had people over for dinner they would sometimes nervously laugh at the eye level dog by the table.

Default Your Lucky Day!

We rescued our first boxer about 15 years ago and I have never loved a dog so much. She was the most wonderful pet we could have ever had. Our boxer mix, Gracie (that we got when Roxanne died), was with us for 11 wonderful years and we just had to put her down two months ago. Our newest addition is a nutcase named George - first male - a rescue that we got about 7 months ago. He is around 2 years and a total clown. You are in for such a treat with this dog and please get her out of that terrible shelter and let her have a wonderful life.
