Hi everyone..I am new here..and a proud owner of a Boxer baby named Bella. I just have a question...to me Bella looks alittle on the thin side. Im not too sure how much she should weigh at 10 weeks old..but when we weighed her she is only about 5 1/2 pounds...Isnt that a bit too thin for her age? Her breeder was feeding her Eukanuba dog food. Should I be concerned or try to fatten her up till her vet appt next Friday the 1st of may? She has tons of energy and shes eating and drinking good..As well as peeing and pooping...she dont have diareha or anything like worms in her poop. Thanx to all that has answers..

does she look really skinny, or is she just really small? What has your vet recomended?

I sure hope she has been to the vet already, with the breeder maybe? I'm sure they could identify if she was growing properly or not.

at 10 weeks she should be much heavier than 5 lbs . Unless she is a true runt - she was conceived later then the rest of the litter but born with them .

All puppies are different but to give you an idea . My last litter every puppy was born at 1 pound and weighed between 9-11 pounds at 8 weeks .

My fist litter were between 13 oz and 1 pound at birth. They were all over 11 lbs at 8 weeks . ( my puppy scale only reads up to 11 lbs ) .

Forcing her to eat more than what is needed will only cause her to get loose stools . How much are you feeding her ? And is she a good eater ? Does she drink a lot ?

I actually dont measure her food out right now..I just leave it available to her through out the day..she does drink alot...and her poop isnt loose at all. Which I thought about it being worms..which would cause loose stools and her to be skinny..I have actually "disected" her poop with a stick to see if I saw any movement being worms and saw nothing. She goes to the vet next week so I will def get the vets opinion. So should I continue measuring her food as her breeder did or let her eat as she wants? She dont woof it down each time..just eats a few pieces at a time...It actually looks like she is picking up some weight..so Im gonna weigh her again and see if she gained anything in the last few days...Am I just a worrier over her or should I be concerned?

You need to see a vet and have a full work up and stool sample done. She should be getting or have had her first set of shots also.

I would push that appointment up to this week. Puppies can fade fast.

Our 15 pound dog was about 5 pounds at 10 weeks, just for comparison.

I am not trying to scare you . So do not panic.

Have the vet check her kidneys when you go to see them . Some of the signs of
JRD ( juvenile renal dysplasia ) are drinking lots of water , problems with house training and not gaining weigh , affected puppies are much smaller than the rest of the litter .Unfortunately this is a hereditsry disease and is being seen more and more in boxers .

How were the size of the rest of her litter ?
