Ouch? Salt water on open sores? You must know something I don't??? I do have Calendula oil from a health food place - not a pharmacy? I don't know if it's inferior or not? but haven't tried it lately.
Would you believe Daisy is allergic to chlorhexidine, an ingredient in Malaseb!!! We can't use it at as it makes her worse. But I have plenty of prescription shampoos that I use instead.
We avoid steroids if at all possible because of the huge ordeal last year with demodex. Never heard of Prition but we use Hydroxypam. We were using Chlor-trimeton - 12 tablets daily, that is crazy!
We did the blood allergy testing because we couldn't get her off steroids to do the skin allergy test. I would like to do the skin test now that we have her off steroids to compare results and also because I have a hard time believing the steroids didn't scew the results.
do you mean skin scrape for demodex?? We've done lots of them. but it sounds like you mean something else? They have called hers atopic dermatitis and we have not tried atopica medication. Does it sound like a bad medication to you?

Andrea, I'm sorry we hijacked your thread! please tell us more about symptoms Keepers is having and maybe we can help you find relief.
I have learned that Listerine, original, is great for itching but I wouldn't put it on raw or broken skin.
Gold Bond powder is helpful for itchy feet.
Selsun Blue medicated shampoo is also good for itchy, yeasty feet (but not for the whole body)

Andrea,
Sorry Keepers' itching. I know that's frustrating. Other people have told me their having a problem with that too. It makes me wonder if there's something in the air like pollen or even little gnats.
A couple of things come to mind - one is fish oil. The DHA/EPA is really good for a variety of reason. It's anti-inflammatory, regulates oil production and boosts skin hydration and helps with skin repair. (It's good for a bunch of other non-skin things in the body too.) Other natural anti-inflammatory helpers are quercetin (nature's Benadryl) and Saventaro (Cat's Claw). Ideally, you want to find out what's wrong and fix it, which maybe the fish oil will do, but the other two should help at least in giving some relief without some of the toxic effects of some medicines.

His itching is only his ears. Before we eliminated chicken and turkey his paws were really bad too, this time it's only his ears. I actually haven't noticed any itching today, so I'm thinking it was something at my parents.
I was giving fish oil up until about 6 months ago, we ran out and started feeding different foods and I totally forgot about it. I just bought a new bottle on Wednesday though, so both dogs are back on that. I am going to start limited his food ingredients a bit more, but not do a total overhaul yet.

Okay, now I get it. When I was a kid my grandma told me that when your ears itch, it means someone was talking about you. So this makes perfect sense. Keepers is at your folks, you miss him & are talking about him, his ears itch. Now he's home, no more talking about how much you miss him, his ears stop itching.
Problem solved.
