Keepers has really bad teeth. He has since we brought him home. They aren't dirty, but the few he has are very worn down and he is missing a bunch. Lets just say he won't be in a toothpaste commercial anytime soon.

We've tried raw bones with him, but other than pork ribs we haven't had much success. Since dog cannot live on pork ribs alone we decided to add in some ground. We were using bravo brand dog food, until I found a woman in our area who grinds Michigan raised meats in her own shop about an hour away. Not only that, her prices are cheaper than commercial foods too (we just bought 30 pounds of lamb mix for $2/pound). I was so excited to have found this person and was really set on getting the vast majority of our dog food from her. She sells lots of bone in parts too.

She delivers the 30 pounds yesterday and it looked amazing. Much fresher than the Bravo stuff and it was ground the night before! Boo scarfed it down and was in heaven. It took Keepers two fasted meals to even try it! He is so scared of new things, and the organ was ground much courser than he is used to.

He finally ate a pound of it this morning, so hopefully he won't have an issue on it from here on out. I'm just so frustrated because I was so excited about this new food... apparently Keepers didn't get the memo

If he ate a pound, it must have tasted good! So hopefully he'll be excited when it's offered again.

I'm glad you found a place nearby that offers good selection at a reasonable price. I live a few hours from Ann Arbor but it may be worth the drive if I can't find anything like that here. I've just started looking around as we are starting to transition Buddy to raw again.

Have you heard of this place before? I know they are near lake Michigan and they do drop offs up near detroit. I know when I inquired before they told me I would have to meet them at 94 somewhere to pick up my load but back when I inquired the dollar was at 50% and it was too expensive to buy for me. They have alot of variety.

I'm glad you found something great for Keepers!!
(((hug))) be patient. I know how frustrating all these issues get, but it will be worth it for him, he'll come around soon enough.

I looked at their web site this past week. I wish they had prices on it. They do have representative in Holland (where I live) so I think I will email her and ask if she has a price list.

I found a Poultry & Fish place yesterday that will sell me chicken backs for about $0.50/lb so I bought 14 lbs! I also made up some of Dr. Pitcairn's Dog Oats (which have a lot of ground meat in them, in addition to some oats & supplements). Buddy's gotten 50% kibble this week and 50% Dog Oats and no diarrhea!!! So we will try a chicken back tomorrow.

I sooo hope we can move him back to raw. He loves it! Since he got a taste of it he constantly whines at me when I'm in the kitchen and sticks his head in the refrigerator every chance he gets.

The place I'm using has cheaper prices the more you buy. If you wanted to drive out to Ann Arbor we could place a big order together and I could have it delivered to my place and store it until you picked it up. I've found that you can't really beat her prices for ground and it is usually ground the same day it's delivered.

I think for Taylor pond you just have to log in and be a member then you can see the prices.

You are right - duh! For some reason I thought you had to be a distributor to be a member. I'll compare the prices with Andrea's supplier in more detail, but a quick look seems her person has a better deal - chicken backs at $.090/lb vs 1.60/lb at Taylor. However, neither is as good as the $0.50/lb I just got locally. I'll have to look it over more carefully though.
