I am proud to say.....

That Rex's poop looks like soft, twisty ice cream when he is going now, LOL LOL LOL.... What an improvement!!
I did give him a new treat today. I went to a special pet food store today and picked up Nature's Variety Freeze Dried Raw Venison formula chunks. Grain free. It is freshly ground venison, lamb, live and bone. Fruits and veggies too. He loved it. Coco was not impressed and Rex ate hers too, LOL.. Good thing, since it was $29 for a 12 oz. bag!!! I also bought a bag of Nature's Variety Kibble, grain free, that I will give as a lunch time meal tomorrow. I thought maybe he might need that crunch for his teeth. I also bought another treat, frozen.... I think it was sweet potatoes and molasses. Didn't get to look inside the box at them yet, didn't have time to look at them better since I had to run out again to go buy more raw ground food, LOL... I have been doing nothing but running here and there getting all these things for Rex's diet, LOL... worse than when I go on a diet, LOL LOL LOL.
I forgot to ask... the ACE vitamins.. how much of that does he get a day? I sure am hoping you are only going to say once a day since they stink so bad!!! I have it all written on a sheet on the counter so I can go down the list as I am putting together his food. DH was laughing last night when he saw all those things lined up on the kitchen counter... there is no room for our own stuff pretty soon, LOL.
And I assume I can put all of these vitamins, bone meal in individual servings to put in the freezer mixed in his meat already?

I give ACE vitamins as part of the Doggie Oats recipe, which Buddy eats over 2-3 days. That is his main source of food and it is mixed in with the other ingredients. I make a batch, then I freeze it and thaw it as needed.
You want to be careful because you can get toxic levels of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K) so that's why it's good to have a recipe you are following or administering based on recommended dosages. It also keeps things simpler so you don't have to have notes all over the place. LOL! I'm not sure what you are doing with Rex - are you doing the Doggie Oats, or the 80/10/10 raw mix or something of your own? If you want me to look up the recommended dosages for vitamins A, C & E let me know.
You don't need to give kibble for his teeth. That's like giving box cereal for your grandchild's teeth. What they need is bones - uncooked, or ones you get at the pet store.

If he liked the NV freeze dried you should try The Honest Kitchen foods. They are the same idea but much more affordable. You add water and let it sit a few minutes and serve.
I like having some kibble in my dog's diets, for travel and for mornings we are in a hurry... but that's just me.

I wanted to do that too. Not for his teeth, but just in case I wanted to give it to him for travel, like you say. So I would give him a cup when I first got up. But after a week or two of raw, Buddy started turning his nose up at it, and whining at me because he was hungry. If I hand fed him a piece -he'd spit it out! I probably shouldn't have relented, but I started giving him raw earlier in the day then.
He's got me trained.

He he he so he did it too you too , Ruby did that not too long ago to me - at least there was only a few cups from a 13kg bag left, and lucky the pet shop didn't have any large bags in stock when I went to get one or I would not have been pleased .

No oat mix... I am doing 80/10/10, I think, LOL... I use 80% ground meat, 10% potatoes (for now until he gains too much weight, then switch to other veggies) and the last 10% I am not sure of, is that organ meet, but I didn't want to start that yet cause someone said if I give him chicken livers too soon, he might have stomach problems, to let him get used to the other raw first. I had the chicken livers in my hand at the store, then put them back and decided to wait til next week.
So, yes, I would need toknow how much ACE. Thanks!

I think you will want to get some other opinions on if you need to give the ACE's and chicken livers. Since I am not doing the 80/10/10 right now, but feeding the Doggie Oats, I can't really address that. When I did the 80/10/10 I didn't give the ACE's, although extra A & E is recommended for inflammatory bowel disease.
But I can tell you what the AAFCO recommended doses are for vitamins ACE, per Dr. Messonnier's Natural Health Bible.
- A= 100-200 IU/kg/day.The toxic dose for dogs is ~20,000 IU/kg/day
- C= Dogs, unlike humans, make their own vitamin C so there is no AAFCO recommendation. Also, it's not fat soluble so you don't have to worry about toxicity. I don't know about dogs, but with people too much just leads to loose stools.
- E = 50 IU/kg. Dr Messonnier says "Vitamin E is one of the safest vitamins; doses above the recommended maximum of 1,000 IU/kg of diet for dogs appear safe."

I would love to not give the ACE's LOL... I was just waiting on the chicken livers for REx's stomach to catch up with all the changes. I was figuring on next week adding them.
