We get nasty farts but only when she has been out with us for a whole day visiting firends or stay overnight at mum's - so I assumed it was more from being out of routine/not in her own space (kind of emotionally triggered). She usually sleeps in the back of the car letting them fire on the way home EVERY time other than then I don't really notice her farting very often.
Can you give a bit of yoghurt with the fish, or mix small amount of fish with another type of protein rather than one big meal of fish

Yup, we give yogourt...so i can mix fish and another protein? here's an example of our fish day menu: 1 can tuna & 2 cans red salmon or sardines or crab meat per feeding.
if i'm feeding fresh fish, the farts are def not as bad...problem is, Nikita will not touch fresh fish.

I was going to ask if it was can fish I remember reading somewhere Tuna isn't the greatest to give, also are these types of fish in "water" or "oil", if feeding can fish you need to stay away from the "oil" ones. I've got a few ideas
* if feeding can fish (JMO I think it's richer in the can) do mix smaller amount with another protein like the ground chicken you get see if that helps
* if you want to try and get them eating fresh fish start by mushing a small amount of fish in with a ground meal and slowly increase it - you may need to "trick" Nikita, Ruby had no idea what to do with a sardine at first lol.
I feed fresh fish - just not comfortable with can fish, don't know why just doesn't appeal to me - I'm a weirdo I know lol

I've always been able to trick Nikita with sprinkling parmesan...lately that's not working lol....also, the canned fish is in water & i rinse it too...thanks, i will def stop with tuna! With memo, i tend to give fresh...such as mackerel, sardines, smelts, rainbow, whitefish etc....i spoke with breeder the other day and she suggested cod, so i'll give that a try too
Maybe silly, but what do you think of pouring homemade chicken broth over the fish?

Hmm won't harm in trying, but might work best if fish is in smaller pieces (I'm assuming it's to make it more appealing) rather than one big bit sitting in it - kind of like a stew lol

Had another thought, if they like their offal maybe adding that too it has a pretty strong smell and might mask the fishy smell a bit

I hear my two passing gas, but very rarely smell anything, unless Rex has some other kind of stomach problem and hadn't eaten a meal.

i doubt adding the offal would work...i don't think it's the smell that bothers nikita, cause she will give a lick to any new fish i introduce and then she decides she doesn't like it....i should mention that in the past she's eaten rainbow trout. When i've tried mixing it with tuna, she'll lick all the tuna around the fish and just leave the fish...i guess the stew wouldn't hurt to try lol...she's always been a very picky eater, and doesn't care to eat much. I remember when she was on kibble i'd have to beg her to eat. The only kibble that she actually really liked was Merrick. Well, thank goodness we only do fish once a wk lol
