Hello, all! I just started feeding my 8 1/2 year old boxer, Killian, raw chicken yesterday! He wasn't sure if he was going to get in trouble at first, but took to it like a champ!!!

For about a week before I had switched him from dry kibble to canned EVO (grain free) which gave him the mega runs! Although, his allergies and bad breath were almost gone! More incentive to go raw, for me. Especially since the grain seemed to be giving him inflammation all over his body. I don't know why it took me so long to figure this out, but here we are!!

So, I started with a chicken quarter and now he's had 2 1/2 meals. How long should I expect his stool to be runny? A week or two? He did have the little vomit with bone...I saw that's okay. He seems to be happier and sleeping very well!!

Also, could he be allergic to chicken?

I noticed with the canned food he hardly showed any redness with the beef, but with the canned chicken as well as the raw chicken (although much less) he still seems to have some slight irriation? Could this be part of detoxing for him?

I feel so good feeding him raw! It's like he's been waiting his whole life! Poor guy! Hope I can keep it up!

Any input appreciated!

Hi there.... I just started Rex this past week on raw food. I've been asking tons of questions here, so you probably already saw what I had to say on here. I think Rex is still detoxing, but the blood in his stools has really slowed down alot! Stools are still loose.

Firstly - Hi and welcome, we'd love to see photos at some stage .

I'm glad he liked his first raw meals, I hope it can bring him some relief. He may have the runs for a few days when detoxing, if he had the runs to start off with it may be a little longer - it's a little hard to say and just like people all dogs are different and react differently . The irritation ... did he already have a little irritation before you switched? If so it may take a little while for the things that are causing the reaction to leave his system, but if the chicken is not causing the issues I would expect it to improve, you can give the chicken a little longer to see if it improves or gets worse - sometimes it is trial and error, you say he has only had 2 1/2 meals so if it were me I would wait it out a little longer and see if it cleared, if not chicken may not be for him. I do know that some dogs may show a reaction to chicken in kibble form but do okay with it when it's raw - not all, but it does happen . Hope I answered all your questions, feel free to keep asking also having a look through old posts may help too keep us updated on his progress

whitedaisy is a raw feeder and has an allergy furbaby, I'm sure she will be able to add some great advice and experience
