if it was raw I wouldn't worry. These dogs were made to eat stuff like this. Lots of dogs will only chew things enough to make if fit the "pipe" and do just fine.
Here is a quick link of symptoms to watch for but I bet you don't need to worry
http://dogs.about.com/cs/disableddog...l_obstruct.htm
A partial blockage in the intestines will produce intermittent symptoms, of vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping. A complete blockage will produce severe and sudden abdominal pain, violent, possibly projectile vomiting. The vomited material may consist of fecal-like matter, if the blockage is located in the lower GI tract, along with distention of the abdomen.

Yes, it was raw, about 3 1/2 inches. But does a raw bone break down, or will it come out whole? He did it so fast, I had just given Coco hers and he was already going after hers too. I took it out of his mouth and threw it out.... that was too scary for me!!

When i do ribs I give part of a slab. That way they don't do that with the bones but they chew them. Ribs are my dogs favorites. I bought a bunch when they were .99 cents a yard. My dogs would do that too with a small piece like that. When I give them a part of a slab it takes them about 15 minutes or so to eat them.

Keepers pooped out about 1.5 inch piece of rib bone a few weeks ago. I haven't given ribs since. He does better with very meaty ribs, but still kid of scary. We'll be sticking to ground for a while I think.

Same with Boo. Keep an eye on him, and be ready to scoop some poop Keep us posted.

He should be fine Doreen, our huge old mix dog would do stuff like that DH even commented once that picking his poop up "brought tears to his eyes" cause of the huge bits of bone in it lol. Why were you giving him a rib bone? Just curious. If you do feel brave enough to try him on another type of edible bone at some stage you may want to hold it for him to show him he has to chew it Just go easy with the new stuff, his tummy will still be healing don't want to undo all that hard work . I must confess I did have a giggle picturing you who is so grossed out by it all and him gobbling the bone up to your horror
