Default Anyone use or try OMA's Pride?

Yesterday we met up with distributer for OMA's Pride. Got 25lbs. of meat to try it out (chicken and beef). Also got a veggie mix and some freeze dried treats. Everything seems great and isn't too expensive. Has anyone used OMA's before? I'm hoping this turns out good b/c it is reasonable, they're close to us, and it is pretty convienent how they package the meat.

I haven't used them personally but a friend in PA does and loves them. I'm sure if it was closer to us we would have tried them by now too.

Cool. Good to hear that. Yeah, I've only read good reviews so far. I hope she does well with it.

Thanks... but I am sticking to just my BJ's ground turkey and TheHonestKitchen.... I'm not messing with anything else... If it ain't broke, don't fix it, LOL.

By the way... did you guys have a baby already or are you still waiting? I forgot since that whole H1N1 vaccine talk that was going on here and you were getting the vaccines because of the baby.

I hear ya. I'm just looking to make sure it is good food, that's all. Don't know if you were blogging on here when I mentioned that she was having an allergic reaction to something that we couldn't figure out from what. Turns out some of the ingredients in her food we found out she is allergic to, and rather than keep trying new kibble the vet suggested raw after I brought it up to him. Since she's been on raw though, she's lost about 5 lbs. so we needed some advice on how much to feed and want to make sure that we're not missing anything. This food is just easier b/c it has the bone ground up in there plus the organ meat, etc. so now we don't have to fuss getting all that and mixing it ourselves. We're still going to feed her meat on the bone also so that her teeth stay clean and it is good for her jaw muscles (like chicken wings, etc.).

Baby is due in the beginning of January! Getting all ready for her - can't wait! Thanks for asking.

Glad to see you are still sticking with the RAW. We don't get this product over here but I had a look at the link you provided - it looks good in comparison to some pre pack stuff but they are a little heavy on the vegetables for my personal liking - they do 20% veg I don't like to do more than 10%. Alot do start off with pre pack because of being usure about "getting it right" like you, and will eventually move away from it when they get a little confidence . Going RAW can be confusing at first, just to give you another way at looking at RAW feeding, think of it in terms of a 10 day period - in that 10 day period the equivalent to 8 days worth of muscle meals, 1 day worth of bone meals and 1 day worth of organ meals would be the balanced 80/10/10, you just "mix it up" a little . This is sort of what I base my monthly dog meat purchase on: Ruby eats a total of 1kg per day, so in a month (x30) she gets something like 24kg meat/3kg bones/3kg offal. Here is a link to a RAW feeding calculator that can be useful, use it as a starting guide and work up or down depending on her condition - needs to gain or loose weight (you mentioned you needed advice on how much to feed).

I know the thought of adding new stuff scares you at the moment Doreen, but it would be good if when he is settled for a while you introduce more protein sources, feeding the same source of protein all the time can lead to developing allergies to that certain protein and that is the last thing you need with Rex. Don't freak out about it though, when he is settled and doing really good for awhile you can try another protein REALLY, REALLY SLOWLY.....like adding 25g new protein (oops forgot you don't know grams umm like a heaped tablespoon) to his turkey and slowly increasing the amount when he seems okay with it. But I'm not saying to go do it right now, you know him best and will be able to tell when he is doing good.

OK, thanks Gizelle. I didn't know about getting allergies. I will eventually try something down the line and I will start SLOWLY. I know I had given him ground beef all at once, big mistake, LOL.. so I learned my lesson. I was just throwing everything at poor Rex... he didn't know what was going on, not like he cared.... he just gobbles anything in front of his nose!!! LOL.

I can understand your desperation with him and wanting to try anything - everything that may help him, he is so very lucky to have both you and your husband

Not long now! The one piece of advice I give my friends when they have their first is - don't stress the small stuff, everything does not need to be PERFECT! Have fun, she will grow soooo quickly.
