Whole Mackerel Fish?
To remove this ad please Register I picked up some fish again for Tie today. This time i got whole mackerel.
Can i feed the whole thing to him?

I feed the whole sardines to Georgie heads, guts and all. I don't know how big mackerel are but I would not have a problem with it.

You can feed the whole thing . If it is bigger than a normal sized meal just cut off a piece .

You can feed fish whole - i do. If it has sharp fins - some species do, chop them off with kitchen scissors. Feeing it whole is a balanced 80/10/10 meal

there are three in the bag. My scale hasn't arrived yet, but i think i'd probably do 1.5 maybe for a meal.

Think I'll stay with adding fish oil. I'm sure it's not as good, but I don't think I could stomach watching Buddy eat that.

Hi Ron,
Mackeral is great to feed Tie. I use Mackeral as a variety in lieu of the chicken or 1 do half and half about 3 times a week. I mostly buy canned mackeral from Chile. Ocassionaly I will buy fresh mackeral and grind it up and then feed it to them. I do know people who feed it whole and some cut into pieces and add it to their meal. It's really is up to you how you decide to feed it. I would think that half a fish would be ok if you are feeding him something else with the fish, depending on how much it weighs would factor in. I got my digital scale from Canadian Tire on one of their sales. It was in-expensive and is a great tool when you are feeding BARF. Just remember you need to know your rations.
