So, both Graham and I have talked about fostering for years! We discussed all the problems, talked to others, read various posts and changed our minds a hundred times at least! But at Christmas we finally made the decision to go ahead with it. We really have no excuses, we are around dogs all day and at home otherwise, how many people are lucky enough to be in that position? Plus, there are just so many dogs in kennels that really can’t cope with the environment, get stressed out etc., not to mention the financial drain on the rescue organisations.
We spoke at length with Northern Rose Boxer Rescue, and were quite clear about the temperament of dog we would be willing to take on, e.g., absolutely had to be dog friendly and def no puppies, and after going through home checks, we went last weekend to pick up Honey. She is 7 years old and is an absolute dream. She is ex-breeding and very much like Ruby was, undersocailised, no commands/recall etc., but she is the most darling dog, so sensitive and calm. Both Jakey and Ruby have been very good with her, but they are used to dogs coming and going, so I would have been surprised if there had been any problems with them.
We don’t know how long she will be with us - her age may be a stumbling block for some potential adopters [their loss, she is great], but we don’t mind. We are happy to have her with us for as long as it takes to find her a good home.
