Xena was rescued from a backyard

We did not get Xena from a rescue, but rescued her from a backyard. My husband's sister told us of a person who was trying to find a home for their boxer because she was "too wild" and her husband did not like her. She was a year old at the time. And obviously they had never had boxers before. We drove three hours, and found her tied to a doghouse outside on a lead no more than 4-5ft. She was very underweight and her hair around where the collar was and behind her ears was almost gone. It broke my heart. We immediately took her home. We took her to the vet and he said she had the worst case of worms he had ever seen in a dog. She was limping at that time, but the vet said it would be best to xray when we had her spayed. She doesnt cry with it or appear to be in pain. She just lifts it sometimes when she is running. We hope to get it fixed soon, but the surgery will be about $1500. I believe the other people abused and neglected her, by what i saw there and by what the vet said. A year before we got Xena, we had to put down our 6 year old brindle boxer Sassy due to intestinal cancer. It was the hardest thing my husband and I had to do. Xena looks similar to Sassy, and to see her condition when we got there--I knew I had to get her away from there as soon as possible. We have now had Xena about a year and a half, and she is thriving well, gained weight and brought much joy to our lives.
