Default Xena was rescued from a backyard

We did not get Xena from a rescue, but rescued her from a backyard. My husband's sister told us of a person who was trying to find a home for their boxer because she was "too wild" and her husband did not like her. She was a year old at the time. And obviously they had never had boxers before. We drove three hours, and found her tied to a doghouse outside on a lead no more than 4-5ft. She was very underweight and her hair around where the collar was and behind her ears was almost gone. It broke my heart. We immediately took her home. We took her to the vet and he said she had the worst case of worms he had ever seen in a dog. She was limping at that time, but the vet said it would be best to xray when we had her spayed. She doesnt cry with it or appear to be in pain. She just lifts it sometimes when she is running. We hope to get it fixed soon, but the surgery will be about $1500. I believe the other people abused and neglected her, by what i saw there and by what the vet said. A year before we got Xena, we had to put down our 6 year old brindle boxer Sassy due to intestinal cancer. It was the hardest thing my husband and I had to do. Xena looks similar to Sassy, and to see her condition when we got there--I knew I had to get her away from there as soon as possible. We have now had Xena about a year and a half, and she is thriving well, gained weight and brought much joy to our lives.

What a lucky girl!

Keepers is a former outside only dog, but he was taken by Animal Control because of his poor conditions. It has been a long long road with him. When we got him he was terrified of everything and very aggressive on leash. We've spent well over $2000 in training now, but he's so much happier. He pays us back 100000% for everything we've done for him, so it's hard to complain.

Good for you!!!!!

You not only gave her a second chance, but a chance at a "real" life where she is treated humanly and loved.

Did you speak to the owners before you took her?

Well, we actually "bought" her. They wanted to sell her to us for $200 without papers but when my husband saw her condition he said no way...I think we bought her for $100-150 cant quite remember. The wife was the only one we saw, the husband never came out. she basically met us at the car and walked us straight to the doghouse. She actually had the nerve to say that if we ever decided we didnt want her to bring her back to them. UHHH.....when hell freezes over. We never said anything to the wife negative-getting Xena out of there was my priority. But we did say something to my husband's sister about the neglect and possible past abuse-because his sister knows this person.

that's crazy. Those are the same type of people who offer puppies in the paper. Some people are just cruel

I know it broke my heart when i first saw her. BUT on a good note, i didnt care about paying for her because i got her out of there. She is healthy now, loved and her spirit is so silly and free. She is my gem and I love her soo much. I hope to load some pics soon!
