Boxer Rescue Ontario Needs Your Help

Our volunteers have given much of the past 8 years to helping build Boxer Rescue from a small group of dedicated people helping a few dogs each year to a registered charity who help hundreds of dogs each year. We've traditionally spent about $30,000 in veterinary costs each year. This year, with the economy in a significant downturn we are facing the problem of more dogs in need and greater costs than ever. In fact, we estimate that if this trend continues our vet costs this year could as much as double. While we ask a small adoption fee for the dogs in our care our fees don't even remotely cover our costs so the majority of our needed funds come to us via our fundraising efforts and donations.
Each year as our major fundraising effort we participate in a walk-a-thon with a number of other like-minded charities. As in years past, this year's walk will take place in June as part of the Woofstock Festival (www.woofstock.ca). With your help we raised over $8,000 last year so our goal this year is to raise at least$10,000 for all the special dogs in our program. These past few months we've been quite overwhelmed with major surgeries and many, many discarded Boxers, many of whom needed significant medical care. We are being contacted almost daily about dogs in need, in many cases victims of the economy through job loss and other family changes.
Please help us reach our goal by pledging us for the walk-a-thon. Rather than a per kilometer pledge, we are simply asking for a set amount - $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 - whatever you can spare. There are close to 600 names on our mailing list. If everyone gave even $5.00 we would be well on our way to reaching our goal. A tax receipt will be issued for any donation of $25.00 or greater so you can even do a little something for yourself at the same time. We can take pledges via credit card through a secure website and you can donate securely here: http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=464. Donations mailed to our mailing address are also more than welcome.
Please consider walking, pledging or encouraging others to do so. We would sincerely thank you but - and perhaps much more importantly - our rescued Boxers would thank you. As we always say at Boxer Rescue Ontario, "Until there are none, rescue one."
