I was given a Boxer by a lady I work with, because she did not have time to spend with her. She has yet to be named (by us). We got her yesterday morning. She is 5 years old.

Saturday nights are kinda wierd around at my house, my youngest daughter Jenny was gone to work, I was in my room watching t.v. and my eldest daughter Jillian was in the living room hanging curtains. We have a big double gate and a single gate on the front of the house. No one can just wander in.

Right at 11 o'clock, there was a knock on the door and the new dog, who was lying on a folded blanket by my bed, shot up like a rocket. I could hear Frog, our other dog (part beagle) who was in the living room with Jill, barking his head off. The new girl hit the corner between my bedroom and the hall that leads to the living room and we heard her bark for the first time. Oh my goodness. It was not just a bark, but a growl/bark combination that raised the little hairs on the back of my neck, and made me pray never to put myself on her bad side.

Jillian looked through the peep hole to see a young Hispanic man standing on the porch holding his hands out at his sides. Knowing I was aware that there was someone at the door at 11 p.m. no less, and that I had two firearms within easy reach, she opened the door. Frog shot out and immediately went to the man's feet and began to circle him. The Boxer stood at the door at Jill's side and snarled and slung slobber in a 10 foot radius. I was standing behind her, royally pi$$ed off that someone would LET THEMSELVES IN THE GATE and knock on the door at this hour.

As soon as the man spoke, which was to ask if we knew where "Jorge" lived. the new dog went ballistic. Up to that point Frog was just kind of checking the guy out, but when the Boxer went crazy, causing Jill to have to hold on to her collar, Frog went stiff as a board and stated to snarl and I had to grab ahold of him. The poor guy didn't know whether to sh*t or go blind.

"Do you know what time it is?" I asked the guy. "You don't just let yourself in people's yards at this hour. We don't know who Jorge is, much less where he lives."

He apologized and I had a moment where I felt bad, I mean he could see Jill's shadow moving around in front of the windows as she was hanging curtains so he knew someone was up, but still, you just don't go whanging on someone's door at that hour and expect to be served coffee and cookies.

The part that bothers me, is that the gates are closed and latched at dusk every night to PREVENT people from coming in. I mean, buy a vowel dude. We have an apartment building next door with about 5 families living in it, and I feel fairly sure that that's where Jorge lives, but don't know for sure.

Needless to say this girl will be with us forever. But we are stuck as to a good name. Here are the following choices we have narrowed it down to, unless anyone has any other suggestions:

Karma (what goes around comes around)

Juno (meaning "vital force")

Olivia (meaning "elf army")

Matilde (meaning "mighty in battle")

Sigi (pronounced C-G meaning "gentle battle")

Tanzi (an herb ... poisonous in large quantities)

Pandora (bringer of chaos)

Phoebe (warrior)

I do too, but the problem is I like them all equally as much. Someone clipped her ears too short when she was a puppy, but there's nothing can do about it now.

I like the name Karma. That is my 7 year old granddaughter's name and she is a special girl!!! Plus you should have "good Karma" for taking this beautiful girl in. I'll bet that guy was up to no good. Boxers seem to have a sense about that.

I would never crop my puppy's ears, but I almost like the short crop on her. It reminds me to a short spunky hair do on a lady.

Based on the story about your unwanted visitor, my vote's for Juno - she sounds like a vital force. And I agree with Andrea about her ears. She looks great!

Juno is good---I like Mathilde too--but bet she'd be shortened to 'Mattie'--which is not necessarily a bad thing!

I think she's already decided you are her family--what a great defender!
