The people at our old dog training club always wanted us to try confirmation (just for fun) with Keepers. They allow neutered dogs and dogs that aren't quite perfect just for the sport of it. I was told that he would be allowed to show even though he has a big scar around his neck because wounds like his are ok, I cannot remember the reason. Any ideas?

Any dog can take classes neutered or not . Even if they have some fault that would disqualify them from an actual AKC conf event . They can even particiapte in matches as long as the match is not AKC sanctioned .

Any neutered/ spayed dog can not be shown in an AKC conformation event , even sanctioned matches . I once saw a puppy excused from the ring because both his testicles were not descended , a must for AKC conf showing .

As far as a scar there should not be a problem but some judges might question it , it would be good to have proof of why the scar is there from a vet .

His scar is from an old owner who let him out grow a collar... our trainer said something about "battle wounds" being ok.

Yes , battle type or fight wounds are allowed . But if they really take away from the appearance then I think the dog would not do too well .

Conformation shows are about exhibiting breeding stock and to see how well they match to the ideal boxer standard , so only intact animals are allowed to be shown. Keep in mind there is no perfect boxer , all will have some fault .

In the veterans classes I believe that being spayed / neutered is allowed since the dogs are past breeding age ( well females are past breeding age ) .

When I first got Boo I didn't understand confirmation at all. I thought the rules were crazy and almost mean. After seeing a few shows in person and learning through breeders who show their animals I have developed such a deep respect for the people who show dogs to genuinely want to improve the breed. Purebred dogs are so awesome, especially boxers and bostons!
