Default Makeup On Dogs For Dog Shows?

I was talking a breeder today who use to be involved in showing. She said that one reason she no longer shows her boxers is because she saw people putting makeup on their dogs?

Umm, do people really do this?

I've heard of putting something on a dog's nose to make sure it is all black.

Putting chalk on the white is common , not only in boxers but all breeds with white on the feet or face . It is not against any rules as long as it is wiped down or brushed out . Some also use other things to darken the nose if it is not black . This is against the rules , but it too is done very a lot .

If you don't like to chalk your dogs then you certainly do not have to .

Wouldn't the chalk fall off or make the judge's hands white? I wouldn't be surprised that they paint or color their hair since they already perform cosmetic surgeries. Check this out, they even sell these "panda dogs" on some websites and claim it is a new breed: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/35232/
They color the dogs black to look like pandas and wait for some fools to buy them.

You would brush on the chalk , rub it in then wipe off any excess . There is normally not enough to get on the judges hands .

But I have seen people use mascara to darken a mask , the judge touched the muzzle to check the mouth and her hands had black on them . The dog was excuses from the ring .

I imagine you could pluck a lot of the greys.... once a dog gets old enough to have a lot of grey it is likely done showing.

Once dogs get older and are usually over 7 they can be shown in the veterans class . Usually held at big shows like ABC nationals and regionals . They grey faces do not matter at all in those classes .
