Exercise dog with bike or Segway?
To remove this ad please Register
We just got a couple of Segway X2's and are hoping to walk/run Buddy with us. Have any of you trained your dog to go with you on a ride? Any suggestions for the best way to do it?

i so want a Segway!
i've always been Leary of riding with a dog. I guess if you start young you can develop a good system so no one gets hurt.
In my neighborhood, there's a guy that fly's around on his bike with the his lab running beside him

The only thing that I think might be problematic would be if the dog pulls at all. The Segway's internal sensors are really sensitive and anything that pulls you off balance could be interpreted as a change in direction by the machine. You might want to try it in a place where you can drop the leash if the Buddy starts pulling or gets spooked.

We got started with walking Buddy with the Segway today and it went quite well! Mike told him Heel and then walked him slowly with the Segway and Buddy did just fine! He had one hand on the steering bar and one hand on the leash. Since the Segway's so intuitive, steering it with his weight and one hand, at least at slow speed, was no problem. We're delighted!
Plus, our daughter's family was over today and Buddy didn't do his excitement pee! Neither did he do it on two occasions on the Segway when we met some folks! It was so nice to not have to clean pee up all over the floor - such a nicer way to visit!

We are having fun! It's been cold, plus we've had family over so we haven't spent as much time on them as we like, but Mike did spend a bit of time with Buddy today on it and it went very well. I made a couple of videos. They're not exciting, but they do give you a feel for it.

I have had both joints in my big toes replaced and am finding that all the walking Buddy requires is causing stress & pain in the artificial joints. Hopefully this will enable me to be able to go for longer walks with him and even take him down to the beach. The x2 model is an all terrain version of the i2 so it should be good to go in snow, sand, or whatever.
He's still getting used to it - and we're still getting used to it. But I think as we all become more acclimated, "gliding" should be even more fun than it already is.
