Friends' Dog Problems
To remove this ad please Register
Hi All,
Just looking for some advice. My husband and I have some great friends. However, their dog is not so great. The dog is very dominant. They find his behaviour cute (he always puts his head on our laps when we sit at their couch, pushes his body up against us, jumps up all the time- and he weighs about 50 lbs) however, we do not. What do you all do in these situations?
I don't really feel like it is my place to discipline him but it does get very annoying...

I guess all you can do is be honest and say that it makes you feel a little bit uncomfortable as the dog is heavy and would they mind please calling it away from you. Some dog owners can be pretty blind to things like this and just assume that as the behaviour is acceptable to them, they can't think that others wouldn't find it acceptable too. If they are good friends of yours they should understand.

if he jumps on you, the easiest thing to do is just turn your back and ignore him.... when he is trying to get your attention, like putting his head on your lap, try getting him to sit (with head off you)then praise him.... this is not that bad, i know its annoying but it could be way worse. i also would tell them that you dont like this behavior

What breed of dog is it ?
I ask because some breeds have traits that may seem dominant but really are not . It may all depend on the breed .
