Biting
To remove this ad please Register
My 5 month old female gets in a weird mood, seems like every evening, out of the blue she wants to bite us, she jumps up at us and growls and barks as she is trying to bite us, we cannot get her to sit or stay while she is doing this, she is uncontrollable at this point! Anyone else ever seen this behaviour in their boxer?? We need help!

What worked for us was to yell "OW" really loud....followed by "no". They are very social dogs and want to appease you. It didn't take long for either of ours to stop that habit.

yeah we did the same. We yelled really loud. The pup needs to be aware that biting is not acceptable "normal" behavior.

We have tried the loud yelp, or "no", but it only makes her "attack" us more!!! I don't understand what could be making her do this.

Put her in a time-out away from everyone else for 15 min. everytime she does this. They hate to be away from others and will soon associate that when she does wrong, she gets separated.

Cali has been chewing the trunk of our tree in our yard, and when my husband tries to get her to stop, she "attacks" him, jumping at, growling and biting him!!! Is this typical boxer behaviour?? when you say "no biting" she just does it more!

Yes , that is typical boxer play . Boxers are very vocal when playing and sometimes sound like they want to eat you .
She does not understand the word NO . She has to learn what is acceptable and what is not . yelping works better that NO , puppies will yelp when another puppy or dog hurts them . BUT you have to be consistant and do the same thing everytime or she will get confused . And it will take time even weeks for her to get the idea of what is allowend and what is not .

If your dog was allowed to remain with mom and his littermates for an appropriate amount of time (until at least 8 weeks of age), then mom should have taught him the beginnings of bite inhibition. As the pups began to grow and develop those needle-sharp little puppy teeth, mom would have disciplined him for being too rough, either with her or his littermates. Junior soon learns that all play will stop and he'll get smacked down by mom if he gets carried away.

you can give the dog a jab in the nose also, that is very uncomfortable for them, so if they go for you and you do that, they'll not want to keep doing it.
