Default Newman Is STILL Having Accidents

Argh, it's getting frustrating.

He'll go a few days with doing all his business outside then all-of-a-sudden he'll have a few accidents in the house again (pee's and poo's)

he's almost 6 months old now, can't he hold it?

I remember reading somwhere that the guide for how long they can hold it is an hour per month in age. Is it only when you are not home? If so is he in a crate or free to roam?

Oooh, if it were me I would restrict his access in the house - shut all doors and if needed gate off parts of the house so he is close to where you are and easier for you to keep an eye on him, when he gets past his toileting issues you can give him access to the areas again (we did this with Ruby until she went without accidents and then let her have free roam of the whole house - it made a big difference). You could also try the method of putting him on his lead and tying it to yourself so he goes where you go and you can "catch" him before he goes. At this point he gets the idea to go outside but because he has been able to "get away" (he hasn't been sprung in the act and taken out) with going inside you need to show him he needs to go outside each and every time.

Yes, leash him to you. Start from square one. Zero freedom AT ALL.

We had to do this with Boo around 7 months. I swear I thought I had the only dog who could not be house broken. She got it for good about a week after we started all over again. And now she NEVER has an accident.

So is leashing the puppy to me the best way to start the house training or is crate training the way to go at first? I took my second week of holidays off for puppy training purposes, so the more efficient I can make this the better. Thanks.
