How to stop a dog from digging?
To remove this ad please Register
For the last couple of days my 5 months old boxer (Tank) start behaving strangely. Whenever I take him outside to get some fresh air and change the environment, he start digging holes. Anything else with my Tank is pretty fine eg. he is active, running, barking and behaving like other dogs. Can anyone tell me what causes dogs to dig holes and how to stop it?
Any help will be appreciated.

Is he off lead, are you out with him, or leaving him alone?

I know Victoria Stillwell will exercise a digger a whole lot (long walks, etc) and sometimes offer an acceptable place to dig (like their own sandbox). Mine have never been diggers, but when they are off leash outside I'm always right there playing with them. I'm not sure the thought of digging has ever even crossed their minds, knock on wood!

My yard used to have lots of apple trees, so there are tons of roots all over. I did have many of them dug up by landscapers, but Coco found one and she is really having a time with it, like she was digging for a bone, LOL. I have to be careful when cleaning up out there that I don't fall in the whole or trip over that root. Maybe in the next few weekends, DH will dig that one out so we can cover it before winter.
