Default potty time!!

ok so Bo has been doing pretty good with his potty training but he still has between 1-4 accidents a day. i take him outside every 45 min to 1 hour and after eating and naps. he always goes potty outside and i give him lots of praise. but alot of times he will go outside and pee but then want in and 5 min later he will poop. he is pooing at the door but i guess im just not fast enough as i never catch him.my mother in law insists that i need to be rubbing his nose in it as "that is the only way he will every learn" umm no, i know that is bad. ohh and he will NOT potty while it is raining, should i just make him stay outside in the rain until he goes? any tips would be greatly appreciated. i have to clean enough poop up from my son and would love to cut back the puppy poo. luckily he never goes potty in his crate and sleeps through the night. thank you everyone.

I think he's doing great for 2 months old - congratulations! He will improve as he gets better neurological control over himself and also just learns to sense when he has to go with a little more lead time for you.

It looks to me like you're doing a great job and so is Bo!

I agree with Sally... as far as rain goes.. that is tough. I remember standing out there with my umbrella for long periods of time and the leash wrapping around my legs. Unfortunately it was so long ago that I had a puppy, I don't really remember doing anything special except to keep trying. Of course they finally did learn they have to go out in the rain to potty eventually.

Wonderful news, you know it is always a struggle with pups, but then they finally make that turning point.

As far as rain, mine hate it, they balk, but because they are adults now, they understand they MUST go outside ha ha ha ha ha

We did just finish housebreaking a Dachshund, and she too hated the rain.

There are lots of places on line that sell 'doggie coats'. I've even seen the iconic yellow slicker! Try Drs Foster & Smith--they have lots of good dog stuff!

I feel you with potty training frustrations! It's rough!
My new pup, she doesn't have to many accidents, especially for an 8 week old. What I do is CONSTANTLY watch her. She's not allowed to go in the house where I can't see her, sometimes I put her leash on just to keep her with me. Other times, if I'm too busy, she's in the crate. If she squats inside it's met with a loud NO and she's carried outside. She seems to be getting the hang of it haha! In the rain... I'm not sure how you could make him go outside. Shenzi hates the rain too, and if it's raining, she pees immediately then dashes to go back in. I guess let him know that you aren't going to budge until he goes potty. The longer he procrastinates, the longer he's standing in the rain!
