no talking

So as our first assignment from this new obedience class we are taking we are not allowed to talk to peaches for 2 weeks. I know everyone is skeptical right off the get go. My wife said she talked to some people from the same class that are 5 weeks in to it and they said DO IT! its worth it.
So far we are 1 week in and it is absolutley amazing how she is responding. She watches us, and listens to simple hand signals... and picks up on our body language.

Yes, tell us more about this - I never heard of such a thing - don't think I could do it though, I'm always nattering on to my lot. I always train my dogs with hand signals and voice though - and practice them both separately. I learnt that lesson from my last dog - she went pretty deaf and couldn't hear what I was asking her to do, made me realise the value of teaching both methods.

Our trainer had us do a week with no loving and petting. Just commands, and treat for obedience. The idea is that you are the leader and they must earn your affection.

I constantly am talking to my dogs as if they are humans in the room with me, always telling them how cute they are or good they are, LOL.... I don't know if I could stop.
I do use hand signals too at times without speaking. I've just always done it unconsciously. They know what I mean, so they do pick up on it.

I talk to Buddy all the time too. And he talks to me - very expressively! Most of the time I even know what he's saying. Seriously!

Ok so the purpose of nnot talking to them for 2 weeks is so thy learn to pay attention to your body language. (Ie if I give you the finger and have the facial expression of looking mad you all know what i mean.)
after the 2 weeks they will respect your body language and then if you do talk to them it will mean more.
