Default Newman Was A Bad Boy At The Dog Park

We took Newman to the dog park yesterday for just the second time since he was fixed.

It didn't go well.

He kept trying to challenge the other dogs...jumping on them boxing etc.

If the other dog went down he would get on top of them and make his growling noise that sounds horrible.

Needless to say we didn't stay long.

Any suggestions on how to correct this?

im am interested in what everyone has to say, bo has started doing this with certain dogs, usually the smaller ones that he can easily knock over during play.

yeah Newman will only do it with dogs he can "take" He picks on the weak ones who don't have the confidence to stand up for themselves.

Since I was not there to see this I am wondering if it is just typical rough boxer play . Boxers will jump up and hit / box others when playing - totally normal.

Now the growling too is a boxer thing . They talk growl and sound like they are killing the other dog - also normal .

Most other dogs do not like this type of play and it can look like the boxer is being aggressive .

Bang on...

Peaches isn't like this at all but there are a couple dogs like that in my wifes meetup... Ozzie rings a bell... When he walks down the street people pick up their kids. He looks rough plays rough... snarls slobbers boxes growls stands over top of other dogs.

how to prevent it from going to the next level
I don't know...

i think Bo really is just playing when he does it but i dont want him to do it to a dog that will get mad and start a fight. this happened several times with my bull terrier several years ago so i kind of what to teach him not to do that while he is still somewhat small.

I agree with what others have said; it sounds like he was just playing really rough. Shenzi always does this, it sounds like she wants to tear Victor's throat out! Obviously he can overpower her at 80lbs, so no one's getting hurt.
I'm not sure how to prevent it either... Other than maybe separating him from the other dog until he's calmed down?

Ruby is like that too - I used to really stress about it (she's our first Boxer so it's new to me) then I realised it's a "breed thing", I feel sorry for her cause she is sooo desperate to play but other dogs wont put up with her and the owners look at us like she is a mad dog. I tell people now when they want their dog to meet her that she loves other dogs but they don't usually like her very much because of they way she plays, some will then leave it alone (I'd say most will then change their mind and leave it) and some say that theirs is the same and aren't worried about it - her favourite black lab is as mad as she is.

I had a guy doing my driveway the other day, he does lots of work for me, and he brought his Boston this time, hoping to play with my two, but when he came in my yard without his dog yet, he was too scared after watching Rex and Coco playing. He thought they might hurt his Boston, LOL.... I said they are only playing, but he was even afraid for himself, LOL LOL LOL..... Rex and Coco are the biggest babies ever!!!!!
