Newman started Training Yesterday
To remove this ad please Register
Yesterday was Newman's first day of Dog Training. The training suggested that we start in their level one class but Newman was obviously way beyond that.
The trainer was basically doing stuff that a puppy should "start" doing like "no biting" "off" "sit"
We hope they'll bump us up to the next class.

I would hope so, or you would be wasting your money, providing Newman is following all those commands, LOL.

Cool, so Newman does all the puppy stuff perfect everytime with other dogs around as well? It's easy to do a sit with familiar faces and familiar dogs around but with new and unknown dogs - does he still respond to you? If he does, then, defo ask to move up a class...... if not, hang in there, its worth going back to perfect the basics, they will hold him in good stead for the more challenging stuff later on. EG: we do one exercise where the dogs are told to sit and stay within a group of dogs, and the owners all walk over to the other side of the room. Then each owner calls his/her own dog one at a time - as you can imagine, one dogs moves and others automatically get up as well. Long distance sit/stays like this, are really hard work and you need a good solid sit/stay behind you in order to perfect them.............just my musings on the matter anyway. Are there any other boxers in the class? Ruby is the only one in hers.

there are THREE boxers! one dragged his owner in (he might have been some kind of mix, looked REALLY stocky) and one SKINNY 6 month old that newman had his eye on. we tried to let them meet each other but newman got all crazy so that didn't work so well.
I think the classes will be really good for him to learn how to behave around other dogs, THAT is his biggest issue, not the actual commands. the trainer's aid said he was 'a bit reactive'!
it seemed like a long class, a lot of talking the first day i guess. hopefully the next one has some more action!
