Scared of truck...

Hey all,

My puppy Diesel is almost 10 months now, and he is totally afraid of riding in my truck. I think some of it is the noise (i have a diesel truck).. but he will shake and shiver once i open the door and call to him... I have tried treats all around the truck and he wont even smell them let alone eat one...

Do you have any tips or tricks on how to make riding in the truck more enjoyable for him?

Try a "high value" treat something he wouldn't normally get that would be super special to him, like maybe some chicken or cabanosi and put it on the door sill at first and slowly move the treat further into the car as he gets comfortable with it. Or maybe he is more toy driven, try a special toy using same method.
Just a thought are you helping him in the door or getting him to jump in, I've seen how high some of the trucks in the States are he could be worried about getting up high, if that is the case I would teach him to put his front paws in the car and help him get in by lifting his rear - out little dog is petrified of jumping up into our car but will do this for him.
When you do eventually get him in the truck you may want to try a dog seatbelt (they are the law over here) it will keep him from moving/sliding around the truck as your drive which freaks some dogs out.

Thank you for that great idea! He's not really a fan of jumping into or out of the truck, so I help him in and out. Ill try the chicken idea for sure! I'd just like to see him get excited to get in the truck..lol. I always make sure to do something fun after being in the truck (hiking, running around at the river, rolling on the ground with daddy) so that he associates the truck with fun time, but getting him to realize that the truck is nothing to be scared of is proving to be a challenge...
But, Ill try the "high value" idea of yours since he really seems to be more treat driven then toy... Thank you so much again!!
