Exclamation aggressive dog (not a boxer)!!!

Hey guys I really need some advice. I have a dog that is very high prey instinct and I am not sure what to do about it. It have gotten really bad in the last year or so. He is a fixed male lab cross that is 6years old.

He got the mail carrier today that was across the street and broke skin. I really don't want to put him down if there is another option. Please help me cause I am very concerned about this. This was also not the first time this has happened.

I realize that it is my fault and want to take every precaution that I can to make sure that this never happens to anyone again.

Sorry--don't really have any knowledge in this area, but have to say if he's already bitten someone, you need to get a professional involved, and fast. Check with your vet, or look on line for local trainers and good luck!!

Sorry, I don't know anything about this either but I have heard that there are trainers for this kind of behavior. I would look online for your area or like Lori said, ask your vet if they know of one.

Unfortunately I do know first hand, an acquaintance that got me Rex from our Rescue just had to put down the dog she fostered then adopted, just last week. Needless to say she is devastated, but she did go to a special trainer for the same thing but this dog was brought up in a crack house & was taught to attack.....they just couldn't retrain him to stop attacking people that came into her house! So it is not a 100% guarantee! Just to be prepared.

I really think you need to get a behaviourist out to assess the dog and to advise you, you really need someone to show you the best way of dealing with him. I have seen several different ones with my dogs in the past and recommend you look for one who has the proper recognised qualifications for your country. It's not easy to deal with, the most I can suggest, is that you channel your dogs prey instinct into something harmless - like chasing balls and muzzle him if he is unpredictable around people.

There is no reason to consider putting him down, most of my dogs have had aggression issues and with teh right help and guidance I have been able to manage them, but it will take time and a lot of effort from you to make things change. I wish you lots of luck.

I'm not sure where you live but I do have a trainer in my area that I recommend. You may even be able to give her a call and see what she has to say even if you aren't close to my area. If you're interested let me know and I'll give you her information. I don't know too much on the actual training bit. However, I do recommend you do get help soon. We don't want anything bad to happen to anyone or the dog. Best of luck.
