I've taught it to Boo just by using her natural behaviors. When she stretches in a bow I would reward her and say good bow. Sometimes she does it when she's starting to lay down also. It takes a bit longer this way, but nothing else I tried worked!

yeah i've tried to teach him while he stretches, but he's not putting two-andt-two together

like most tricks it helps to encourage natural behavior. Just have treats and praise ready for his next stretch
