Default Walking Question

Georgie is sooo good on her walks. No pulling, she stops and sits before I cross the street, no going after birds, cats, other dogs like Daisy did. I read you are only supposed to walk 5 minutes for each month of age. My question is does that mean at a time or only once daily. I try to walk her 25 minutes twice a day. Also my grand daughter is with me for the summer and she like to jog with her when we walk. Is that OK for a pup? (She is 7 so they don't jog at an adult speed).

The weather is heating up so I am going to have to take her really early in the morning. I guess it beats the cold wind.

really you can walk or run as long as when Georgie wants to stop she can. It's forced exercise that isn't good. So a leisurely walk around the block is fine.

here in Ontario now the weather is a big issue. Boxers don't do well in the heat. Tie can overheat on just a stroll arond the block

It has not been that hot yet but is supposed to really heat up this week, 100 by mid week. I will walk her real early and after the sun goes down. I can't take a walk around the block in the heat!

Yeah, when it's too hot mine just lounge around. Duey was extememly intolerant of heat, poor guy hardly ever got to go on walks. Daisy does pretty well but still we don't go out much in the heat. Poppy I think also will be pretty heat intolerant. She already pants for hours just playing!!
mental exercise is a great alternative to physical. It makes them just as tired. So teaching tricks is super good on those really hot days. Also, there are food puzzle toys for dogs that work well.

I will try the mental exercise for Georgie. I live in the upper desert and it gets hot. Fortunately we generally have really cool evenings and it is usually cool in the early morning and for the most it is not humid at all. I really worry about Georgie getting burned especially around her eyes. I ordered the Doggles sun goggles for her and I am going to order her a floppy sun hat. I don't know if she will keep them on. The gal who fostered Georgie said she lost a White Boxer with skin cancer. That has me freaked out. Georgie loves to lay in the sun. It has not been very hot here yet so maybe she won't like to "lay out" so much when it does.

Daisy is a sun worshiper too!!! I've bought beds to lay in the shade and she won't go near them if they aren't in the sun! Poppy likes the shade, smart girl!
